Top 10 Musical Scores Part 2: Emilio and Josh Strike Back

Posted: March 2, 2012 by Emilio Garofalo Neto in Reel Lists, Uncategorized

Apparently John Perritt and John Kwasny felt obligated to include Jaws, Indiana Jones and Star Wars in their lists, which make sense, but is so 1980. Yes, those are great soundtracks, but to avoid repeating their lists I decided to make my own using only movies released post 1995.

Top 10 Music Soundtracks – Emilio

  1. Lord of the Rings Trilogy
  2. True Grit
  3. Pan’s Labyrinth
  4. Pulp Fiction
  5. The Thin Red Line
  6. Forrest Gump
  7. Up
  8. Gladiator
  9. Inception
  10. Black Swan

Top 10 15 Music Soundtracks – Josh

Emilio’s incredible taste in film and film scores makes my list a bit redundant, but you can never have too much awesomeness!

So many good scores (some just themes)…Here are some of my favorites in no particular order…okay, maybe Lord of the Rings is at the top for a reason…

  1. Lord of the Rings – Howard Shore
  2. Batman (1989 version) – Danny Elfman
  3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl – Klaus Badelt
  4. The Godfather – Nino Rota
  5. Edward Scissorhands – Danny Elfman
  6. Inception  -Hans Zimmer
  7. Little Miss Sunshine – Mychael Danna and Devotchka
  8. Requiem for a Dream  -Clint Mansell
  9. Gladiator – Hans Zimmer
  10. Back to the Future – John Williams (check out this great salute to JW)
  11. Braveheart – James Horner
  12. Forrest Gump – Alan Silvestri
  13. Shawshank Redemption  -Thomas Newman
  14. The Village – James Newton Howard
  15. Rudy – Jerry Goldsmith

Reel Thinking Recommendation: Check out the “Film Scores” station on Pandora.  It is great!!

  1. Josh, I’m proud of you for using the Requiem for a Dream theme. It is used in trailers everywhere, but few people know it came from this hard movie.

    • Josh Kwasny says:

Thanks. Chalk that one up to my Internet skills. I haven’t seen the film…probably won’t due to the graphic sexual content I have read about. The music is creepily good however.

  2. DustyOldTrail says:

Woah woah woah woah woah. I’ve never seen Josh Kwazny before but he is hauntingly similar to what I picture John Kwazny’s evil twin to look like. Goatee and everything. I tip my hat to you good man
